Our Crime Victim Services Department is co-located in a Center for Independent Living. We have been providing concurrent victim and disability services to individuals with disabilities for over 15 years. The program currently spans 5 counties: Palm Beach, Martin, St. Lucie, Okeechobee, and Indian River. We have English and Spanish-speaking advocates to assist individuals whom have been exploited criminally due to the vulnerability of having a disability or whom have acquired a disability through an act of violent crime. We provided direct service such as restraining order assistance, emergency victim fund assistance, victim’s compensation application assistance, peer counseling, individual counseling, advocating for disability accommodations/services, facilitation of interviews with law enforcement, attorney’s or health appointments, and providing training and technical assistance to other community agencies.
Our Unique Contributions
We provide a multitude of services to individuals with disabilities, any age, any disability, any crime type. Victims do not have to have a police report in order to receive our services. All of our services are free of charge. Because we are located in a Center for Independent Living, we offer a one-stop agency assistance for disability-related issues including services like benefit assistance, transportation training and applications, vocational rehabilitation, social security and disability appeals assistance, youth after school & summer programs, information & referrals, food assistance, healthcare & voting access, and other such services.
