Community Alliance for Individuals with Disabilities

Wilmington, North Carolina

The Community Alliance for Individuals with Disabilities (C-AID) is a collaborative effort between the Rape Crisis Center of Coastal Horizon’s Center, Inc and the disAbility Resource Center. The Rape Crisis Center of Coastal Horizon’s Center, Inc. serves all victims of sexual assault, providing services in counseling, crisis intervention, and law enforcement/court advocacy. The disAbility Resource Center works to empower persons with disabilities to achieve and maintain independence in their communities.  The two organizations came together to address the gaps in services for survivors of sexual assault who are disabled, with the intent of beginning and spreading this work throughout North Carolina.

Our Unique Contribution

C-AID was one of the first formal collaborations between an independent living center and a sexual violence organization in North Carolina. Their work together has focused on addressing gaps and barriers at each organization that prevents meeting the needs of survivors with disabilities.
