Metro-Milwaukee DART Initiative

Milwaukee, Wisconsin

Metro-Milwaukee DART Initiative: A Community Collaborative Effort Serving Survivors with Disabilities from Crisis to Healing (MMDI: ACCESS) is made up of four community programs- IndependenceFirst, Sojourner Family Peace Center, Milwaukee County Disability Services Division, and City of Milwaukee Office on Violence Prevention. Building off a long history of collaboration between the member organizations, MMDI:ACCESS is working to create a seamless service delivery system that exemplifies choice, safety, dignity and justice to empower survivors.

Our Unique Contribution

MMDI:ACCESS created a tool to assess organizations for safety, accessibility, and their welcoming environment for survivors with disabilities. Training staff members through in-person and recorded training events, the agencies ensure that all existing and new employees are well versed in the issue of violence and abuse of people with disabilities.   MMDI:ACCESS also emphasizes the safety of staff, who conduct in-home visits through training and safety measures in the agencies.
