Project EMERGE is a collaboration between Vera House and ARISE in Syracuse, New York. Vera House is a nonprofit victim service agency providing direct client service, community education, and community planning with a primary focus on domestic and sexual violence. ARISE is a nonprofit, community-based Independent Living Center in Central New York that is run by and for people with disabilities. These two organizations are working together to create a comprehensive and inclusive community prevention and response system, guided by and in service to, people with disabilities and Deaf people who are survivors of domestic and sexual violence.
Our Unique Contribution
To increase the accessibility of information, Project EMERGE created videos that were filmed in American Sign Language and include voiced narration and text captioning. These videos are some of the first in the United States to provide information on domestic and sexual violence accessible not only to Deaf, but to all.
