No Longer Silent: Violence Against Persons with Disabilities is an Issue of Global Human Rights


Judith E. Heumann, Special Advisor for International Disability Rights, U.S. Department of State, highlights the issue of violence against people with disabilities as a global issue in an article highlighted in the Huffington Post. In the article she discusses a report by he European Parliament that shows that women with disabilities are four times more likely to experience sexual abuse, and that children with disabilities, persons with intellectual disabilities, and persons living in institutional settings are also at greater risk for sexual violence. She ends the article calling on all to engage in the movement to end violence against people with disabilities globally.
