Nearly two decades ago the original guide for the Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE) programs was released. Now in 2016 the Office for Victims of Crime is pleased to announce the new and improved SANE Program Development and Operation Guide. The updates to the guide are centered around and recognize five key principles of trauma-informed, patient centered care, multidisciplinary approach, community uniqueness, and evidence-based practice. Resources and information have been fully updated to include the most recent research and innovative practices from the field, to support you in creating a new SANE program or enhancing an existing one. In addition to these updates, the guide is now available online for the first time, making it easier for the guide to be continuously updated with new resources, and distributed for use.
