The End Abuse of People with Disabilities Initiative is a project of Activating Change.

Activating Change works to end victimization, criminalization, incarceration, and institutionalization of people with disabilities and Deaf people. We bring together people and organizations across the country working in disability, survivor advocacy, and criminal legal system reform movements; ground them in a common equity framework rooted in disability, racial, and language justice; align them around common goals; and build their capacity to achieve collective impact.

Activating Change began operating as a project of the Vera Institute of Justice in 2004, and launched as an independent non-profit in 2022. We are recognized as a leader in centering people with disabilities in anti-violence efforts. We pioneer work at the intersection of disability, violence, and justice and developed a field where none existed before to address the high rates of violence and trauma in the lives of people with disabilities.
